About the Trust

Radio was John’s lifelong passion.  He simply adored being “on the wireless”. Heavyweight political interviews, followed by a dose of his no-nonsense, quirky and humorous take on life were served to his eager audience daily.

He used to say he had the best job in the world, so owed it to the thousands that tuned into him every morning to be the best he could be.

When John died in August 2008 aged 46, his family, colleagues and friends decided to do something he would have thoroughly approved of.

The result is the John Uphoff Memorial Trust.  Conceived to nurture young radio talent and offer financial assistance to those striving to make their mark on the industry John loved.

The trust will consider applications annually, and details on how to apply will appear on the website later this year.
